Pick any day from September 2014 to today. See who held each governorate, and the strikes, fighting and decisions around it, each with its sources.
Frontswatch shows which force has held each of Yemen’s 22 governorates at 15 points between September 2014 and October 2026, plus dated events: strikes and attacks, ground fighting, changes of control, political decisions and humanitarian news. Choose a day, then choose how far back to look.
Control is simplified to the governorate level. Marker positions are approximate for places the sources describe loosely. Events from 2014 to 2021 rest on general reference sources and are less precise than 2022 to 2026. Battlefield claims change quickly. This is an independent project, not affiliated with any government, party, armed group or news organisation.
Each event comes from published reporting: news outlets (mainly Al Jazeera, plus Anadolu), research and monitoring groups (ACLED, the Long War Journal, and ISW and Critical Threats posts), Security Council Report, and Wikipedia pages used as an index to the underlying reporting. Every event links to its sources so you can check it.
Control of each governorate is taken from the same reporting and reviewed at 15 points in time. A governorate is shown as mixed when two forces hold different parts of it. A whole district is shaded only when a source names it.
Events are added by hand, not by an automatic feed. Wording follows the sources and avoids taking sides. Where sources disagree, the event says so, and claims by a party to the conflict stay labelled as claims until someone independent confirms them.
